Thanks to David and his hospitality we had a really nice stay in Balbo‘s even if we just stopped for one night and had to leave early- he was very friendly and open- hearted and wanted to do the best to let us feel comfortable and welcome! It was all clean and the food delicious. Thank you, we would like to come back to your hostel!

An amaizing place, Diego is an awesome guy who does everything he can to make you feel at home. Located next a river this is a beautifull place to go when you want to get away from the hectic citylife or when travelling through. Would definately stay again!

Especially as a cyclist you feel welcomed from the first second. There were even opportunities to wash my clothes. The enterprise started a few months ago and the operators invest much energy in setting up the hostel. For me as a cyclist the location of the hostel was perfect on my way to the south coming from Nicaragua.

If you prefer nature over boring cities, Balbo's is the perfect last stop before you hit the border to Nicaragua or one of the beaches in Bahia Salinas. Just take the bus towards La Cruz and ask the bus driver to drop you off at the entrada Quebrada Grande. Take the time for your visit and stay at least two nights, because the area is beautiful and Edward, Wilma and Diego are extremely nice people. Their tours are worth taking. I did the waterfall tour, which was really nice. Kenneth, their guide, takes you off the beaten track, to places only local people go. On your way he tells you everything about almost every plant, tree and animal in the area. Really worth it!! They also offer a horse riding tour with horses from a nearby farm. Balbo's supports local people more than most other places, so if you want to avoid the touristy places, you should definately pay them a visit!

This hostel is about a 20 minute drive from the Liberia bus station, so we took a taxi to get there. It’s pretty new, so be prepared to show a taxi driver it’s location on google maps. The owner, Edward, was definitely the highlight of staying here. He was really helpful and made amazing burgers and fries. He is raising chickens, and the little chicks on the property are absolutely adorable! The view of the river from the swing he built was beautiful. There is also a ton of wildlife nearby; Jesus lizards, 3 types of monkeys, a range of birds, and an alligator! In the main lobby/restaurant/lounge area, there is a ton of room to hangout in the hammock or play card games. I really enjoyed staying here. Also, if you plan to travel to Rincón de la Vieja or anywhere else, the hostel owner can help set you up with a driver! We used the van to get to the national park and it was super convenient and cheaper than a taxi.
