This place was amazing and we loved our time here so much we extended another night. Sander and Tanoi are amazing and friendly hosts who make your time there extra special. A lot of people stay in Don Det but even if you do we would highly recommend at least a couple of nights on this remote island as it is a beautiful and peaceful place that is a lot more like local life. The food was great and convinced us to do the market visit and cooking class during our stay. Communication and help to get to the place was brilliant and lots could be arranged and booked once there for onward journey etc..

We stayed 2 days in don som. Sander and Tanoi are extremely nice hosts, who take a lot of care for their guests. We had an amazing time with Tanoi, learning how to cook Lao food and many interesting discussions with Sander. The bungalows are simple and nice, equipped with everything needed (mosquito net, fan...) and had hammocks on the veranda. Thanks for your great hospitality, we had an awesome time in your home stay!

If you are looking for peace and tranquility then this is the place. The host Sander, from the Netherlands, is very welcoming and full of information to help you get about while you're on the Islands. The rooms are fairly simple, a couple of small Bungalows on stilts, but you have a fan and electric points in the room. They are clean and the bed I had was very comfortable. There is a separate bathroom and toilet just a few meters from the Bungalows. Due to the location there are no other restaurants available to use, so you are reliant on the restaurant at guest house, which is no bad thing as Sanders' sister in law is a mean chef and there is a good variety of foods on the menu. I enjoyed everything about this place and would definitely recommend coming here if you want some relief from the "Tourists trail". Sander is the perfect host and we spent a few evenings with a few beers putting the world to rights.

This is really a perfect place: The calm island itself, the accomodation, the food and last but not least: The hosts Sander and Tanoi. The hospitality of Sander and Tanoi is outstanding and honestly on of my best homestays I've ever been. Guests are always No. 1 and they do everything to make the holiday unforgetable (really e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!). I was travelling alone and I enjoyed my stay there so much (11 days) and if I would have had more time, I would have spent even more days at this place. At Don Som and the islands around there are many options to be active or otherwise just relax & enjoy the place the whole day :-). I really recommend the cooking class which includes a boat trip to the morning market. It´s really an authentic experience. So if you searching for an unique and serene place (off the beaten path), nice people and very very very good food: This is the place to be.

Everything is perfect . The experience is extraordinary, this is what I haven been looking for my trip . A quiet island with local people live on. And the guesthouse just by the river.view is fantastic all day . The owner is a lovely couple and nice to chatting with them . All in all . If you are looking for someplace to make you feel really quiet and peace . This is it !

Just everything, it was clean, spacious and a wonderful location but most of all we had a great time at the cooking class and with Tanoi - we enjoyed spending the time with him and his family so much !

We liked everything. The location is perfect. This was our second time in Si Phan Don and we choose Don Som as we already knew Don Khon and Don Deth. This is the only ( or maybe the one of the only two...) Guesthouse on this island. It is located right on the bank of the river which is a great plus. Nevertheless the country behind is so beautiful as well. The inhabitants of this island are much more welcoming to foreigners( compared to the inhabitants of the two most popular islands...) and everybody seems to be willing to talk to you!! The bedroom is basic but there is everything you need. A good bed, clean sheets, mosquito net, two windoows, a new fan, soap and toilet paper. The small restaurant has a good menu and the owner's family makes everything possible to give you some good directions to reach their accommodation and are helpful in everything.

This place is all about the location. Don Som is unlike the two main islands in Si Pan Don (Don Det and Don Kon), in that you are pretty well the only tourists here. This is a tiny bungalow operation, tucked away in a little slice of paradise, with nothing but authentic Laos island life to keep you busy. What a find! Your host, Sander, can help with all sorts of arrangements, and is a source of delightful conversation, about Laos, life, and everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our five days here. Would have liked to spend a couple more days, if we had the time. Be warned though - if you are looking for lots of activity, maybe this isn't for you. However, if you are looking for a place to slow down, unwind, and somewhere to enjoy a slice of real Laos village life, then this is 100% recommended as part of your itinerary.
