Lovely staff greeted us and gave insights into local sites and activities, to include a great tip to try the house beer (brewed by the host's mother's recipe - she was one of the first women to attend Brewing school in the 60s!) -

The hotel overlooks a pretty town square and is an ideal spot in the summer to sit outside with a beer and watch the world go by. The manageress was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was superb, far more extensive than I expected. The building itself is a bit quirky, neither modern nor ancient but quite fun. -

I was given a twin room even though I booked a single, so it was nice to have the extra space. The room (1.4) had a good size ensuite, but it had one of those horrible small hand basins! The shower is a good size. Tea and coffee making facilities, TV with English channels were available in the room. A do it yourself buffet style breakfast was included in my price of 71.50 euros with the local tax. The mostly cold buffet had a great range of quality food, including for vegetarians, although not vegans, but maybe upon request. You can cook your own boiled or fried eggs and make your own fresh toast. My friends and I ate in the hotel restaurant on the evening of our stay and our meals were excellent and good value (e.g. large steak 24 euros). The hotel is a nice small town, which has plenty of good walks on its doorstep and the larger town of Popperinge is a short distance away. The hosts understanding of English is good and you will receive a good welcome.
