Remote location in the woods next to a cascading river feels very secluded and in nature. Clean tatami cabin rooms with private onsen-fed cypress baths are peaceful and unique. Friendly and welcoming staff were very helpful. Amazing Kaiseki dinner never seemed to end and delicious breakfast. Wonderful (but not large) rotemburo bath outside next to the river - you may have it to yourself. And bizarrely, this was the only place we found orange Fanta in 2.5 weeks travelling around japan.

The staff were really helpful and friendly especially satou san who has helped us out with a lot of things I.e arranging transport to and fro the onsen town. Other staff generally would try their best to help when you ask even if their English isn't perfect. I would recommend this place but I think it would be best to drive there as it is a little further out. The dinner provided was fantastic! The bath onsen is fantastic!

Very beautiful resort inside of the forest, every room has own bath with hot spring water. We gonna definitely come back. It worth the money.

We spend a few days at Kurokawa onsen, staying in a different ryokan every night. Oyado Hanabou is not located directly in Kurokawa Onsen village with its’ small shops and sometimes bustle of visitors but instead seems to be hidden in a forest when you arrive there for the first time (it’s easy to find though). The ryokan consists of several small buildings. The landscape around the ryokan is beautiful; a small river flows past the main building and the onsen rooms, giving an awesome view while taking a hot bath. Apart from the cozy atmosphere and nature we enjoyed the keiseki dinner most (and of course also the breakfast) that consisted of regional (and of course seasonal) dishes, especially Kumamoto area wagyu and basashi (horse meat sashimi). A hot bath after dinner completed our perfect day at Oyado Hanabou.

Not the best onsen but acceptable. The outdoor onsen is surrounded by the forest and the river.
