Loved the two private onsens in the ryokan which were built by the owners father. Tsukinoya is in a convenient location for all the things to do in Hakone. It is just a few minutes walk from kamisokokura bus stop on bus H from odawara station. It is also only about 10 mins walk from Miyanoshita railway station. We bought travel passes which were good value and explored Lake Ashi (sadly too cloudy to see Fuji) and visited Tenzan-tohjii onsen which is very traditional and serene and enjoyed a fabulous shaba shaba lunch. Ryokan is old but spotlessly clean and as comfortable as any ryokan. The real delight however are the owner and his wife who are two of the most kind and helpful people you will ever meet. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else if we return. Sushi restaurant next door is amazing

Wow. Absolutely incredible, sweet hosts. Husband and wife run this place and couldn’t be more hospitable if they tried. Option of Japanese or western style room. Even the western room still has a Ryokan feel but we opted for the full experience. Clean, comfortable and spacious room with working AC. You have your own toilet but have to use the Onsen for showering, there are two available. Unlike a lot of Ryokans you can have private sessions when you like - they just ask you to lock the door! We never had to wait during the 2 night stay. As an added bonus we were kindly given free lifts too and from a restaurant, and they even dropped us free of charge at Odawara train station on check out (1hr round trip!!!) Overall an excellent stay and can’t thank the couple enough for giving us the experience we were after.

The owners were absolutely delightful – really lovely, welcoming people. They gave us each a homemade bag as a gift and drove us to the train station when we left – try getting that in a Hilton. It's an authentic rokyan, so you sleep on a futon on the floor, although we were given the option of an alternative room with conventional beds. It's old fashioned, but that's part of its charm, and there are two onsen, both of which you can bathe in privately when they're available – a serious plus point if you don't fancy getting your kit off in front of all and sundry, which is customary with Japanese public baths. The decor in the upstairs onsen is amusingly unique and makes for a good photo op.

Very friendly staff! The owner even drove us to the station to get our next Shinkansen train.
